Dr. Doug B. Anderson is an established private practitioner of general psychiatry in San Francisco, with a major emphasis in depressive disorders. He is Board Certified as a Diplomat by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and is currently on the consulting staff at California Pacific Medical Center. Dr. Anderson’s career treating depression has led him to explore effective treatments, in addition to psychotherapy and antidepressant medication. He finds TMS to be a valuable addition to traditional treatment.
Dr. Anderson completed his medical school education at the University of Oregon Health and Sciences School of Medicine. He completed his psychiatric residency at the University of California Medical School, San Francisco, Langley Porter Institute. In addition to maintaining an active general practice of psychiatry, he has served as the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the McAuley Institute, St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco. While at St. Mary’s Medical Center, he was the Chairman of the Medical Ethics committee and helped establish ethical guidelines for the practice of delivering health care.
Before entering his residency in Psychiatry, Dr. Anderson worked as a general physician in the orthopedic department of Kaiser Hospital, San Francisco which taught him much about what people experience with illness, either physical or psychological. A more recent interest has been in geriatric psychiatry. Dr. Anderson completed his Board Certification in Geriatric Psychiatry and is an active consultant in geropsychiatry. He is currently an active member of San Francisco Medical Society, and has served on the Board of Directors.
